David,

For a fee, some choose to send certain coins to a 3rd party grading service for grading and then encapsulation in slabs. The two most popular services are PCGS (http://www.pcgs.com/) and NGC (http://www.ngccoin.com/).

Here is a good article about the 70-point coin grading scale:

I have renewed my childhood love of coin collecting. I was fortunate to purchase the Lincoln proof silver dollar. I am unaware of these grade 69 and 70 for these coins. The mint did not have such grades How does one find out the grade of the silver dollar. The coin is encased and I would hate to destroy the casing for the coin.

Thanks

Hi Doug,

The US Mint has been quiet to date about the 5-coin set. Their biggest public announcement about it was back in a press release on Jan. 30 when they announced the Lincoln Silver Dollar release dates. The release said:

"A special set containing a proof silver dollar and proof versions of four 2009 Lincoln one-cent coins-each bearing a design representative of a different aspect of Lincoln's life-is expected to be available in the spring. The special set will be limited to 50,000 units."

In essence, public demand set the splits with more proofs flying out Mint doors. In the very end, it looks like there will be a 3-1 ratio (375k proof to 125k uncirculated).

I think this article is incorrect, only minting 500k and so it has got to be the Uncirculated…the 5 coin set will include the four pennies and a MS …. Which will be worth more than the proof because there will only be 175k instead of 325k for the proof …Doug”
these are your numbers your nubmers from another article it leaves 50k MS to go

2009 Lincoln Silver Proof* 325,000 325,000 0 0.00%

2009 Lincoln Silver Uncirculated* 125,000 125,000 0 0.00%

Total 500,000
