2013 American Silver Eagle Coin Sales Continue to Impress

Among the weekly leaders in the new coin sales data from the United States Mint were the debuting Fort McHenry Silver Bullion Coins and the ever popular 2013 American Silver Eagle coins — both the collector and bullion versions.

Demand eased only slightly for the 2013-W American Silver Eagle Proof Coin. After adding 18,443 to its total in the prior round, collectors scooped up 17,312 in this round. The latest gain pushed its new sales figure to a height of 688,125. The bullion version soared 1,179,000 and now has year-to-date sales of 33,075,000. That happened on Monday, August 26. In record year 2011 when annual sales reached almost 40 million, it took until October 1 for sales to reach 33 million.

2013 Fort McHenry 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coins launched on Monday through the U.S. Mint’s network of Authorized Purchasers. Starting sales opened at 10,100 and then another 100 were added by Tuesday. The start is the best this year. These silver coins are aimed at investors; therefore the public must go through coin dealers or other precious metal sources in the secondary market to acquire them.

Later today, at noon ET, the collector version becomes available. 2013 Fort McHenry 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins may be ordered directly from the US Mint website at www.usmint.gov for $154.95. Sales could pop for them since silver prices have been rising sharply but the Mint has kept pricing the same on its silver products. The five ounce series has already been doing well in recent months. In the latest weekly results, sales across the three older coins advanced 1,999, up from the prior week’s 1,972.

As for numismatic silver sets, the pace marginally quickened. The 2013 Silver Proof Set was up by 4,147 in the weekly sales chart, versus an advance of 4,039 previously. To date, orders for this year’s silver proof set came to 286,493.
