This gilded edition is in specimen quality and composed from one ounce of 99.9% pure silver. The koala scene is the same as the one appearing on related 2013 Koala bullion coins also struck by the Perth Mint. However, those silver coins do not feature the marsupial gilded with 24-karat gold.

Gilded Koala Silver Coins first appeared from the Perth Mint in 2008. The series has created a loyal following among collectors owing, in large part, to the annually changing koala scene. Gilded editions have a limited mintage that also increases desirability. The mintage of this newest release remains at 10,000 units, like its predecessors.

Gilded Koala Silver Coin Designs and Specifications

Shown on the reverse of each 2013 Gilded Koala Silver Coin is the image of an adult koala sitting in a fork of a eucalyptus tree. Surrounding the design are the inscriptions of "AUSTRALIAN KOALA," "2013" and "1 oz 999 SILVER." Tom Vaughan designed the reverse, which also includes the Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mint mark.

The obverse contains Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Surrounding that portrait are the inscriptions of "ELIZABETH II," "AUSTRALIA" and the legal tender face value of "1 DOLLAR."

Each of the silver coins has a diameter of 40.60 mm, a thickness of 4.00 mm and a minimum gross weight of 31.135 grams. The coin is placed within a display case inside an illustrated shipper. Also included is a numbered certificate of authenticity indicating the maximum mintage.

The Perth Mint of Australia is currently offering the 2013 Australian Gilded Koala Silver Coin for AUS $94.55 or US $99.00. Prices may fluctuate depending on the silver market.
