Each is composed of one ounce of 99.9% pure silver struck to high relief in proof quality. The maximum mintage is limited to 9,000 individual silver coins with another 1,000 reserved for other product options.

Shown on the reverse of the silver coin is a high relief image of a koala. If the image looks familiar, it should. It is the same design as seen on the Perth Mint’s 2013 Koala Silver Bullion Coins. It has also been featured on several other numismatic Koala coin releases this year.

As mentioned, this strike is issued as the second annual high relief koala silver coin. The series debuted last year when the 2012 Koala High Relief Silver Coin was released in September.

Koala High Relief Silver Coin Designs and Specifications

A single koala is pictured in high relief on the reverse of the coin. The image is the work of Perth Mint artist Tom Vaughan and depicts the marsupial sitting on the branch of a eucalyptus tree, surrounded by gum leaves. Inscriptions include AUSTRALIAN KOALA and 2013 1 OZ 999 SILVER. A Perth Mint ‘P’ mintmark is also found on the design.

The obverse appears in high relief as well. It includes a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley. Obverse inscriptions include ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA and 1 DOLLAR.

These silver coins are struck as legal tender of Australia and feature a face value of 1 Dollar as indicated by the obverse inscriptions.
