It is the fifth of five 2013-P Uncirculated America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Coins and the twentieth in the program overall. Shown on its reverse is a design emblematic of Mount Rushmore National Memorial of South Dakota.

Each is composed from five ounces of .999 fine silver. Each features an exceptionally large diameter of three inches.

According to the US Mint, maximum mintage for the release is set at 25,000, which is the same as the prior four silver coins. Initial pricing is listed as $154.95, plus the US Mint’s standard $4.95 shipping and handling charge. This same cost also applies to all other available five ounce silver uncirculated coins. Pricing is subject to change, however, as is normal with all precious metal products from the Mint. As a testament to that, the first two issues of the year were introduced at $179.95, and the series originally debuted with coins priced at $279.95.

Melt values for the silver coins on launch day were $108.75 per coin, which is calculated by using the day’s London silver fix of $21.75 an ounce and multiplying that by 5 for the five ounces of silver. That indicates each coin has a premium on the day of $9.24 per ounce, a small amount when contrasted against this year’s most sold US Mint silver product, the 2013-W American Eagle silver coin and its $31.20 premium.

Designs on 2013-P Mount Rushmore Silver Coins

As mentioned, reverses of the three-inch silver coins have a design emblematic of Mount Rushmore National Memorial of South Dakota. This is the same basic image as found on the companion America the Beautiful Quarters as well as the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins, both of which were released on Monday, November 4, 2013.

This design was inspired by photos of worker’s completing the final touches of the sculpture. United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Joseph Menna designed the image which shows two workers near the Thomas Jefferson face with a profile view of the George Washington section in the distance.

Shown on the obverse is a portrait of George Washington, the first President of the United States. Obverse inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and QUARTER DOLLAR. It will always appear on each of the America the Beautiful silver coins.

Associated Mount Rushmore Bullion Silver Coins

Similar 2013 Mount Rushmore 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coins are also produced by the United States Mint from five ounces of silver with a three-inch diameter. The bullion coins are struck for investors and sold through the Mint’s network of authorized purchasers for a small premium above the current spot price of the silver they contain.

In contrast, these uncirculated coins are produced for numismatic purposes and initially sold directly to the public by the US Mint. Both types of coins are struck on the same coining press. As an aid in differentiating the two series, the uncirculated silver coins include a ‘P’ mintmark on their obverse. They also feature an uncirculated finish, compared to the bullion coins’ brilliant finish, and are encapsulated in a clear plastic holder for protection with each shipping in a presentation case and having a Certificate of Authenticity.
