Officially named the 2013 United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set™, it is available directly from the U.S. Mint through its website at www.usmint.gov.

This particular set is the first collectible product issued by the U.S. Mint this year, but the fourth annual release since the America the Beautiful Quarters® series kicked off in 2010. Packaged within a single protective lens are five 90% silver coins honoring:

  • White Mountain National Forest (New Hampshire),
  • Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial (Ohio),
  • Great Basin National Park (Nevada),
  • Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine (Maryland), and
  • Mount Rushmore National Memorial (South Dakota).

Silver Weight, Melt Value and Price

These ATB silver coins combine to a weight of a bit over 0.9 troy ounces, which makes the set’s melt value just south of $27.50 at the silver spot price of $30.39 an ounce. That is one of the factors buyers like about America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Sets. But as a numismatic product with proof quality quarters from the San Francisco Mint that bear "S’ mint marks, collectors must pay a premium over melt value as the U.S. Mint charges $41.95 for the silver set.

Part of that price includes the cost of producing the 90% silver America the Beautiful Quarters, packaging for the proof set and marketing it. As for the packaging, that is new again this year as seen by the image above. Sets in years 2010 and 2011-2012 sported two different outer box designs — the first year was a flag-based box design while the following two years were U.S. Mint-branded black and white boxes. This latest box design is the most attractive. It has images of the national parks and national sites honored by the ATB quarters. Speaking of designs, check out this year’s quarters designs since actual images of them have not been published yet by the Mint.

The next collectible silver product release for the U.S. Mint is the 2013-W American Eagle Silver Proof Coin. The Mint plans to release it on January 24, 2013 for $62.95.
