Each is struck from 99.99% pure silver with a total weight of 15.87 grams. Mintage of the Polar Bear coin is limited to 100,000 with an eventual sell-out seemingly likely based on the popularity of two sister programs also offered by the Royal Canadian Mint.

The related exchange $20 for $20 program debuted in 2012 and has seen all but the most recent two silver coins sell out. Still available are the Canada Goose Silver Coin released in January and the Bobcat Silver Coin from March. The Canadian Goose coin is now at 90% of sales.

In 2013, the exchange $100 for $100 program debuted. All three silver coins from this series have sold-out.

Collectors have been drawn to the two program’s because of their changing and dynamic designs, their silver content and because each is sold at their legal tender face value. These popular concepts are now duplicated with the start of the $50 for $50 series.
