2015 Proof Silver Eagle Coin Sales Start at 262,377

The results are in, and the 2015-W Proof American Eagle Silver Coin is off to a good start. Its inaugural sales hit 262,377 in two days.

The U.S. Mint did not waste any time and launched this year’s proof Silver Eagle on Friday, January 2, for $48.95. This was an earlier release and a lower price compared to the start of last year’s Silver Eagle, which launched on January 23 for $52.95. During last year’s launch, consumers picked up 307,378 strikes in a Thursday to Sunday time-frame.
Demand for the annually released collector coin has always been strong. It has been a top seller since its inception in 1986. Every strike contains one troy ounce of 99.9% fine silver and bears Adolph A. Weinman’s full-length rendition of a Walking Liberty. The only year that the Mint did not offer a proof version of the coin was 2009, due to limited quantities of silver blanks that were needed for the bullion version. The 2015-dated bullion Silver Eagle that is intended for investors has a launch date of Monday, January 12.
Other popular sellers last week were the 2014 Silver Proof Set, jumping by 4,487, and the 2014 Proof Silver Eagle which is still for sale. It added 4,015 to its total — now at 745,394.
