2016 American Silver Eagle Sales in September

The newly released 2016-W Proof American Silver Eagle led again in the latest United States Mint sales stats.

Orders reached 40,786 during the collector product’s first full week on the market, and when added to its robust initial start, the popular one-ounce 99.9% fine silver coin’s total ticked up to 363,103. Last year’s coin was released on January 2 and it didn’t reach that level until early May.

On the investor side, bullion American Silver Eagles wrapped up a better month. Sales in September ended higher than they did in August and July. The U.S. Mint recorded 1.675 million coins sold for the month after totals of 1.28 million in August and 1.37 million in July.

Demand was down, however, when comparing the month to September 2015, which tapped out at 3,804,500. It is also lower when looking at the year-to-date. So far in 2016 there’s been 30,575,500 ordered but that pales to the 36,054,500 sold during the same period last year.

The table below shows the latest sales stats for collector coins and related silver products from the U.S. Mint. Sunday, September 25, is the as of date for the standard collectibles and Friday, September 30, is the as of date for the bullion products.
