It is the latest edition — the 4th this year and 34th overall — from the U.S. Mint program of collector coins that celebrate national parks, memorials and other sites throughout the United States and its territories.

Established as a national site in 1946, the park is located in western North Dakota and covers over 70,000 acres of land. It is named for 26th President of the United States because of Roosevelt’s fondness for the area in which he ranched and hunted.

Theodore Roosevelt Coin Design

Designed by Joel Iskowitz with engraving by Phebe Hemphill, the reverse depicts a young Theodore Roosevelt on horseback surveying the terrain near the Little Missouri River. Inscriptions are THEODORE ROOSEVELT, NORTH DAKOTA, 2016 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.

All America the Beautiful coins share an obverse portrait of George Washington, as designed by John Flanagan. Washington has appeared on 25-cent pieces since 1932, including the newest Theodore Roosevelt quarter issued in August under the U.S. Mint’s program of America the Beautiful Quarters®. Inscriptions around the effigy read: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and QUARTER DOLLAR.

Quarters have reeded edges. Edges of these silver coins are flat and include lettering of .999 FINE SILVER 5.0 OUNCE to identify their composition and weight.

Ordering

Priced at $149.95, the 2016-P Theodore Roosevelt National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin will be available from this U.S. Mint product page or by calling 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468).

The maximum potential mintage for the uncirculated coin has been set as 30,000.

Bullion Version

A similar bullion version has been available since late August. It shares the same designs as the above-described coin for collectors, but lacks a mintmark and unique finish. Also, the U.S. Mint does not sell it directly to the public. Instead, it is sold through a network of authorized purchasers for a small premium above their associated melt values.

The maximum mintage for both versions is combined 150,000 coins. The U.S. Mint at this writing has sold 30,500 of the bullion pieces.
