Bullion 2016 American Silver Eagle Sales Reach 17 Million

According to the latest U.S. Mint sales stats, bullion 2016 American Silver Eagles reached the 17,000,000 milestone, in record-breaking time.

As a comparison to the same time last year, 2015 Silver Eagle sales had just topped the 13 million mark to land at 13,049,500.

In order to hit 17 million in sales this week, the U.S. Mint’s network of authorized purchasers had to buy the weekly allocated of 1,036,000 coins, which included 36,000 coins carried over from last week’s allocation. This feat was accomplished by Wednesday. The Mint has rationed weekly Silver Eagle orders because of silver planchet shortages.

On the collector side of sales, the U.S. Mint’s weekly best sellers in the silver category were again the 2016 National Park Service 100th Anniversary Commemorative Silver Coins. Another 3,613 of the proof and 1,014 of the uncirculated dollars were scooped up by Sunday. The three-coin proof sets advanced by 538. The proofs are still outselling their uncirculated counterpart by more than 3-to-1.

The table below shows the latest sales stats for collector coins and related silver products from the U.S. Mint. Sunday, April 10, is the as of date for the standard collectibles and Wednesday, April 13, is the as of date for the bullion products.
