Canadian 2014 $100 Bighorn Sheep Silver Coin

[Shown: The 2014 $100 Bighorn Sheep Silver Coin. It is the fourth release in the Royal Canadian Mint series of $100 for $100 silver coins. 83% sold within the first few days of release.]

Featuring two bighorn sheep poised for combat with a surrounding Canadian landscape of hills and mountains, this newest silver coin for collectors not only has a face value of $100 but it is sold for $100. It is also GST/HST/PST tax exempt.

Like the Mint’s $20 for $20 silver coins, this $100-denominated series has become extremely popular with the prior three issues depicting a grizzly, bison and bald eagle selling out. Unlike these three silver coins, this latest release has a mintage that is 5,000 less at 45,000. The Mint indicates 83% have already been sold.

Composed from 99.99% fine silver to matte proof quality, every 2014 $100 Bighorn Sheep Silver Coin has a weight of 31.6 grams, a diameter of 40 mm and a serrated edge. With today’s London silver Fix price of $19.73 an ounce, these silver coins each have an intrinsic or silver melt value of that amount but will change daily.

Also like each of the three previous coins, the reverse was designed by Claudio D’Angelo. Around the two bighorn sheep are inscriptions showing ‘CANADA’, the coin’s date of 2014, its denomination of ‘100 DOLLARS’, and the D’Angelo’s initials of ‘CD’.

Traditional to Canadian coinage, obverses have the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Susan Blunt. Encircling inscriptions are ‘ELIZABETH II’ and ‘D.G. REGINA’.

Still a young release, found on the coin’s product page are only 4 reviews. They give the coin a rating of 4.3 stars out of 5. Top pro ratings note that the coin is attractive (4) and of great quality (3). No cons are listed.
