US Mint silver coin salesUnited States Mint numismatic statistics showed a mixed but slower leaning week of silver product sales, breaking a two-week streak where all silver coins had advanced. And in bullion products, 2010 American Silver Eagle coins improved in the last several weeks but dipped overall in September. To the numbers…

2010 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Sets rallied for a third straight week, rising 4,498 compared to the prior 4,471 which followed the lower 2,732. The sets are standing at 190,341.

Although the quarters did well, the 2010 Silver Proof Set experienced the most action. 19,097 were scooped up by collectors, although that was down from last week’s reported 22,244. They made it to 358,661, which is now over half of the sales achieved by 2009 Silver Proof Sets.

Demand for both American Veterans Disabled for Life commemorative coins retreated. The silver dollars in the last round jumped 3,634 for the proof and 993 for the uncirculated. The latest numbers have their weekly gains at 2,923 and 921, respectively. Their combined total hit 237,427, which is 67.8 percent of their authorized 350,000 mintage.

News for bullion 2010 American Silver Eagles was mixed. First, a recap of September sales. 200,000 were purchased in the final few days in September, advancing their monthly total to 1,880,000. While the eagles soared during the last few weeks, the month ended as the slowest so far this year due to their slow start. It should be noted, however, that September is not known for blockbuster sales. In fact, September 2009 went down as the weakest month for the Silver Eagles last year, with just over 1.7 million sold.

As for October, the silver coins started off with a bang of 515,000. Going back a full seven days shows their gain at 715,000, which beats last week’s reported 635,000. Demand for the coins is rising along with 30-year high silver prices. The eagles’ year-to-date total now stands at 25,995,500. Last year’s annual record was 28,766,500, the highest for the series since their introduction in 1986. In order to break that record, the Mint will have to sell more than 2,771,000 before December 31. Expect that to happen.

Finally, and likely the best news silver coin collectors have heard all year was the resurrection of the Proof American Silver Eagles. The U.S. Mint made the announcement early Monday morning that it will begin selling the silver coins at noon ET on November 19, 2010. Their price has been set at $45.95.
