US Mint 2011 America the Beautiful Silver Quarters Proof Set

The United States Mint added a few more products to their weekly sales report. Official sales numbers for the 2011 America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coins and the 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set were proclaimed.

In just one day, US Mint Authorized Purchasers ordered a total of 153,400 of the Gettysburg and Glacier National Park silver bullion coins, which leaves 99,600 available. The Mint released the silver coins on Monday, April 25. The US Mint decided to produce 253,000 or 126,500 of each design. It will be interesting to see if they are sold out by the time next week’s sales are reported.

In other bullion news, American Silver Eagles shot up another 718,000. This latest advance put April’s total ahead of March — 2,819,000 compared to 2,767,000 — and made April 2011 the 13th best month in the series with still a few days remaining. Annual sales moved up to 15,248,000.

The newest stats for the silver sets revealed that the US Mint had sold 78,758 of the 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set since its launch on April 1. Opening numbers were not reported during the first several weeks. That sales total, however, must have occurred prior to April 18 when the set was suspended.

The 2011 Silver Proof Set, a top seller for many weeks, and the other silver sets lost more ground during their suspension. The 2011 and 2010 Silver Proof Sets retreated by -6 and -107. The 2010 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set fell by -8. It is not known when the US Mint will resume sales of the popular silver sets.

In the meantime, commemorative silver coins took the spotlight. The proof Medal of Honor silver dollar led with a spectacular 3,907 jump and the uncirculated version followed with a 1,319 gain. The proof US Army silver dollar was the second best performer, climbing by 1,818. The uncirculated Army coin’s sales total grew by 580.

As a reminder, the long overdue collector 2010-dated Hot Springs National Park Five Ounce Uncirculated Silver Coin will launch tomorrow, April 28 at 12 noon Eastern Time.
