US Mint Sales: America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Sets Surge

It was a strong week for silver coins, according to the most recent sales report from the United States Mint. For the second week in a row, every numismatic coin and set outperformed their prior week’s levels. The bullion silver eagles strutted their stuff and the 2010 America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set tackled its biggest gain since June. Another high climber was the DAV commemoratives.

The US Mint’s authorized purchasers loaded up with bullion American Silver Eagles. They bought 716,500 since the last report, and made July’s total 2,652,000. Right now it will only take 349,000 to match June’s total, and there is still four more business days remaining in the month to get it done. The way they are moving, the year-to-date total will easily break the 21 million marker very soon. Currently, it is 20,820,500.

Without a doubt, the 2010 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set™ is reaping the benefits from the release of two new sets from the US Mint. The 2010 Mint Uncirculated Set launched on July 15, while the regular 2010 Proof Set commenced on July 22, and in both weeks sales for the silver quarters set spiked. The prior advance was more than 5,000 and in this report it was more than 7,000. The new total reached 143,072.

As for last year’s set, the 2009 DC and Territories Quarters Silver Proof Set may have reached the end of the road. Instead of posting its new total, the "NLA" (or, No Longer Available) sign was given. A quick check on the Mint’s website, however, still shows the set available. Whether it was an oversight in the report or an indicator the end is near, is not yet known, but the prior total was 286,106.

Moving over to individual commemoratives, the 2010 Disabled American Veterans Silver Dollars climbed a little higher than before, advancing by 941 compared to the previous gain of 852. The proofs are still leading by a large margin, 153,208 to 65,250. The gain in this report was 672 for the proofs and 269 for the uncirculated. The prior increase was 624 and 228.

Last but not least, the proof 2010 Boy Scouts of America Silver Dollar is still for sale, in a waiting list capacity on the Mint’s online store, and the total sold did not change.
