US Mint Sales: Bullion American Silver Eagles at 12 Million

Sales quickened for the two most popular silver products in the U.S. Mint’s numismatic lineup, but the winner was not a new product. In this latest round of sales stats, last year’s 2015 Silver Proof Set topped the others by advancing 3,437 to 364,948.

Surprisingly, it outpaced both commemorative 2016 Mark Twain Silver Dollars combined. The proof dollars gained 2,227 and earned second place in the race. The uncirculated dollars added 570. Since their launch in mid-January, consumers have taken in 69,918 of the commemoratives.
The U.S. Mint this week sold 1,000,000 bullion American Silver Eagles to its network of authorized distributors, just like last week. The Mint is rationing the coins because of silver planchet shortages, and no more will be available until Monday. Year-to-date sales reached 12,000,000 coins, which works out to 24.7% higher than the same time period in 2015. Last year’s American Silver Eagles notched an all-time sales record of 47,000,000 coins.
The table below shows the latest sales stats for collector coins and related silver products from the U.S. Mint. Sunday, March 6, is the as of date for the collectibles and Thursday, March 10, is the as of date for the bullion products.
