US Mint silver coin sales Demand for bullion American Silver Eagle coins continued their stable climb. However, collector silver coins slipped from higher points again, United States Mint sales data revealed. For a second week in a row, just one numismatic product outpaced its prior gain as others slowed.

The 2010 Silver Proof Set shot up another 13,766, but that was down from 19,097 and 22,244 from the last few rounds. Still, it was the biggest seller in the numismatic group. The America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set added 2,882, also lower from a prior surge of 4,498.

Collectors and military enthusiasts loaded up with American Veterans Disabled for Life silver dollars. Sales increased by 2,579 across both options, with 1,993 proof and 586 uncirculated. In the previous report, however, the silver coins jumped by 2,923 for the proof and 921 for the uncirculated. The proofs are still leading by a large margin, 169,857 to 70,149, which is a ratio of about 2.4 to 1.

In a bit of a surprise, the lone numismatic item to exceed its prior week’s gain is the oldest of all the Mint offered silver products, the 2009 DC & US Territories Silver Quarters Proof Set. 1,070 sold compared to 845 and 977 in previous weeks. The new tally brings them to 295,600.

More bullion sales were added to board this week as U.S. Mint Authorized Purchasers picked up another 835,000 Silver Eagles since last Wednesday. The gain was 120,000 larger than the prior week. October’s new tally arrived at 1,350,000 and the year-to-date total clocked in at 26,830,500. If the bullion silver coins continue to move along strongly, they could topple a new record high for the series before the collector 2010 Proof Silver Eagles launch on November 19. The number to beat is 28,766,500 which was achieved in 2009.
