In the realm of news for silver coins, it has been a busy couple of weeks for United States Mint 5 ounce issues. The month of June will continue the buzz as the Mint is scheduled to release the collector 2010-P Yosemite National Park 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin for California on Thursday, June 9, 2011.

The Yosemite silver coin is expected to be listed for $279.95, the same price as the first two issues in the America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins™ series — the first being the Hot Springs silver coin for Arizona which sold out and the second being the Yellowstone silver coin for Wyoming that is quickly nearing a sell out.

Just like the circulating Yosemite America the Beautiful Quarter which launched into circulation on July 26, 2010, the Yosemite National Park 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin bears a reverse design depicting El Capitan. The national park feature is the largest monolith of granite in the world. Inscriptions on the silver coin include YOSEMITECALIFORNIA2010 and E PLURIBUS UNUM. The obverse or heads side features the familiar portrait of George Washington.

As a 5 ounce issue, the coin is 3 inches in diameter. It has a 99.9% fine composition, and includes edge letterings so denoting (.999 FINE SILVER 5.0 OUNCE).

27,000 is the mintage limit for the Yosemite National Park coin. That is the same level as each of the five 2010 coins.

Once available, orders may be placed at http://www.usmint.gov/ or via the toll-free phone number, 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). There will be a one coin order limit per household.

Later 2010 uncirculated coins celebrate Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona and Mount Hood National Forest in Oregon. All of these issues were actually produced by the United States Mint last year, but their releases were held until 2011.

The 2011 uncirculated coins, also expected out this year, honor Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania, Glacier National Park in Montana, Olympic National Park in Washington, Vicksburg National Military Park in Mississippi, and Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Oklahoma.
