Found within the set are fourteen proof quality coins produced at the U.S. Mint facility in San Francisco. Seven are silver coins that are struck in 90% of the precious metal. The other seven are standard clad.

The seven clad and seven silver coins of the 2014 Silver Proof Set include:

  • 2014-S Clad Lincoln Cent
  • 2014-S Clad Jefferson Nickel
  • 2014-S Silver Roosevelt Dime
  • Five 2014-S Silver America the Beautiful Quarters® featuring reverse designs emblematic of Great Smoky Mountains National Park of Tennessee, Shenandoah National Park of Virginia, Arches National Park of Utah, Great Sand Dunes National Park of Colorado and Everglades National Park of Florida
  • 2014-S Silver Kennedy Half Dollar
  • Four 2014-S Proof Presidential $1 Coins with obverse portraits honoring Warren G. Harding, Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover and Franklin D. Roosevelt
  • 2014-S Clad Native American $1 Coin showcasing a reverse design with a theme of "Native Hospitality Ensured the Success of the Lewis and Clark Expedition"

The quarters and dollars bear unique designs that are to be featured only for this year.

Each of the silver coins have a composition of 90% silver and 10% copper. These, in order of their denomination, are the Roosevelt dime, the five America the Beautiful Quarters and the Kennedy half dollar.

All the coins have the ‘S’ mintmark to denote their production in San Francisco. Proof quality coins have sharp reliefs as a result of multiple strikes and have frosted foregrounds with mirror-like backgrounds due to dies and blanks that are specially manufactured and polished.

Set Packaging

The fourteen coins of the set are encased in three different protective lenses. One has the five silver America the Beautiful Quarters, one has the four Presidential $1 coins and one has the remaining five coins — the cent, nickel, dime, half-dollar and Native American $1 coin.

All three protective lenses ship together in one carton which offers an image on front of the Washington Monument at sunset. Shown on the back of the carton are photographs of:

  • the five sites honored by 2014 America the Beautiful Quarters,
  • portraits of the individuals depicted on the 2014 Presidential $1 Coins and
  • images of the cent, nickel, dime, half-dollar and Native American $1 coin

Inside the carton, along with the coins, is a card containing the U.S. Mint Certificate of Authenticity. The card also offers the specifications for the included coins.

Melt Value of Silver Coins in 2014 Silver Proof Set

The seven silver coins have a combined total silver weight of 1.34 troy ounces. Based on Monday’s London Fix for silver of $19.60 an ounce, each 2014 set has an approximate melt value of $26.23.

For informational purposes, the legal tender face value of the fourteen included coins is $6.91.

Sales, Mintage Limits and Ordering

No pre-determined mintage limits apply to this release. In addition, no household or product limits are in place. This is common for annual sets from the United States Mint with customer demand determining the final mintage.

The 2013 Silver Proof Set was listed as "sold out" and placed on the Mint’s "No Longer Available" list in early February. According to the U.S. Mint, unaudited sales of that set reached 419,721.

When released, individuals interested in ordering this year’s 2014 Silver Proof Set may do so directly from the United States Mint website at www.usmint.gov/catalog. Orders are also accepted via telephone by calling 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). Here is a link to the Mint’s annual coin set page. The set will be placed there when issued.
