US Mint Sales: Silver Coins Slow From Previous Week
January 25, 2012 by Silver Coins Today Staff · Leave a Comment

Demand dramatically dropped for United States Mint silver coins, according to the latest round of statistics. The leaders were the bullion Silver Eagle and the 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set, while no update was given for sales of the 2011 Silver Proof Set for a second straight week.
Sales of the bullion Silver Eagle moved up 375,000 since last Thursday to 5,547,000. Previously it soared 915,000. If U.S. Mint Authorized Purchasers pick up the pace and buy another 875,000 coins before the end of the month, then January 2012 sales would tie with the all-time highest monthly sales record of 6,422,000 which was set in January 2011. Annual Silver Eagle Sets Possible in 2012 and Beyond
January 24, 2012 by Darrin Lee Unser · 3 Comments

The uncirculated Silver Eagle from West Point has been around since 2006. The U.S. Mint is looking at offering San Francisco minted Eagles and other special versions for annual Silver Eagle sets.
In a move sure to delight some collectors, the United States Mint has indicated that a San Francisco struck 2012-S Uncirculated Silver Eagle will be released. In addition, the possibility of new annual Silver Eagle Sets has been alluded to by the Mint, although any details at this point must be called sketchy at best.
The new annual sets could contain a variety of special Silver Eagles — high reliefs, reverse proofs and differing mint marks. Apparently, exactly what those special options would be are still being decided with the Mint seeking feedback from the public through a survey. While set options are currently being considered and could actually change from year to year, the 2012-S Uncirculated Silver Eagle is evidently a sure thing. Read More…

Collectors focused most of their energy on the debuting 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set. 61,181 left the United States Mint’s shelves during the first seven days of its launch. It was released on January 10, 2012.
Although sales were solid, they could not match the 2010 Quarters Silver Proof Set which started at 73,756. The older set, however, was the inaugural issue for the series. As for last year’s set, a comparison can hardly be made. The U.S. Mint did not report initial sales for 2011 Quarters Silver Proof Set until three weeks after it was released. When the number was announced, it had reached 78,054. Read More…
