This coin marks a departure, however, from the traditional kangaroo bullion series which, up until now, has only been struck from pure gold. The series itself debuted over twenty years ago and features an annually changing reverse design — a unique feature among world bullion coins.

The 2010 Silver Kangaroo is the first time the Perth Mint has created a coin in the series in 99.9% fine silver. As if striking it from a new precious metal composition was not enough, the Mint further enhances it with a High Relief, proof finish, adding an exceptional level of detail.

Indications from the Perth are that the Silver Proof Kangaroos will be an annual release making them ideal for collectors. With the design changing annually, each new year brings another unique addition to collections.

The specially designed Kangaroo coins are considered legal tender under the Australian Currency Act of 1965 and features a face value of AUS $1. However, as the coins are minted from one ounce of 99.9% silver, its intrinsic value is worth much more.

As legal tender, the obverse (heads side) design features a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II along with the inscriptions "Elizabeth II," "Australia," and "1 Dollar."

On the reverse (tails side), the 2010 Kangaroo bullion design is featured. It shows two ‘boxing’ kangaroos in Australia’s outback and was designed by Wade Robinson. Inscriptions include "Australian Kangaroo," "2010 1oz 999 Silver," the Perth’s historic ‘P’ mintmark and the designer’s initials "WR."

Weighing in at 31.135 grams, each has a maximum diameter of 32.60 mm and a thickness of 6.0 mm, enabling the silver coins to be struck to high relief. It ships with a display case in an illustrated shipper showing a kangaroo in the wild. A numbered certificate of authenticity is also included indicating the maximum mintage of only 20,000 coins.
