Orders for the new silver coins may be made directly with the U.S. Mint at a price of $229.95, plus the Mint’s standard shipping and handling charge of $4.95 per order.

This strike is issued as the last of five 2012-dated America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins. The series debuted with five 2010-dated silver coins and features five new releases annually showcasing reverse designs emblematic of different sites of national interest from around the United States and its territories.

These designs are also featured on two other series of coins from the Mint. This includes the circulating America the Beautiful Quarters® as well as the investment-grade America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins.

Shown on the reverse of Denali uncirculated coins is a design emblematic of Denali National Park and Preserve. Denali is located in the state of Alaska and preserves over 6 million acres including the mountain for which the park is named (also known as Mount McKinley). Denali is the highest mountain in North America.

Designs and Specifications for Denali Silver Coins

Like other strikes of the America the Beautiful Silver Uncirculated Coin series, the Denali coin is composed of five ounces of .999 fine silver. The coin features a diameter of three inches.

On reverses of the silver coins is a Dall sheep in the foreground with Mount McKinley rising in the background. The design was created by AIP Master Designer Susan Gamble and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Jim Licaretz. Reverse inscriptions include DENALI, ALASKA, 2012 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.

On the obverse, a portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan may be found along with the inscriptions of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and QUARTER DOLLAR. The portrait is likely a familiar one for many as it has been used on circulating quarter dollars of the United States (with minor variations) since 1932.

Also on the obverse, a ‘P’ mint mark can be found. It indicates production at the U.S. Mint facility in Philadelphia. This helps to differentiate the uncirculated coin from the related bullion coin which has no mint mark.

Finally, an edge inscription on each reads .999 FINE SILVER 5.0 OUNCE. This inscription is used to identify the weight and fineness as the obverse and reverse designs are the same as those used on the associated circulating quarter dollar.

Current Sales, Mintages and Order Information

The United States Mint indicates the maximum mintage for this release is 25,000. That level is the same mintage cap in place as the previous 2012-dated releases of the series. It differs from those issued last year, however, as they have a mintage of 35,000 per coin.

Not including the newest release, nine 2011- and 2012-dated America the Beautiful Silver Uncirculated Coins are for sale by the U.S. Mint. The latest sales stats for these silver coins are offered below:
