2013 Australian 1/10 Ounce Koala Silver Coins

The Perth Mint of Australia has 2013 Australian Koala Silver Coins minted from 1/10 ounce of 99.9% pure silver at pricing of $13.59 each.

Shown on the reverse is the 2013 design first unveiled for the related Koala bullion coins. This series dates back to 2007 and has featured annually changing reverses ever since. These silver coins are in different sizes of 1 kilo, 10 oz, 1 oz and 1/2 oz. In 2011, the Perth Mint added the 1/10 ounce option.

2013 Australian Koala Silver Coin Designs and Specifications

This year’s reverse design depicts an adult koala resting in the fork of a eucalyptus tree. It is the work of Perth Mint artist Tom Vaughan. Inscriptions surrounding the marsupial include "AUSTRALIAN KOALA," "2013 1/10 OZ 999 SILVER" and the Perth Mint’s "P" mintmark.

Obverses offer the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Inscriptions are "ELIZABETH II," "AUSTRALIA" and the legal tender face value of "10 CENTS."

These silver coins are issued as legal tender of Australia under the Australian Currency Act of 1965. As such, their weight and purity are guaranteed by the government of Australia.

Specifications of the strike include a diameter of 20.60 mm, a thickness of 2.00 mm and a gross weight of 3.135 grams. Every silver coin is housed in an illustrated presentation card which contains an image of two koalas.

Final mintage of the coin is to be based on demand.
