The 2013-P White Mountain National Forest 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin, the first of five 2013 America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins for collectors, is now available from the United States Mint.
This strike with its reverse design honoring White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire made its sales debut on Thursday, May 16, 2013.
"The America the Beautiful Five-Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins are collector versions of those issued through the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin™ Program," describes a press release from the United States Mint. "The designs on both the three-inch, five-ounce uncirculated coins and the bullion coins are identical to the ones that appear on the corresponding circulating quarters issued through the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program, except that the bullion coins do not have a mint mark."
The bullion version of this coin was released for sale this past Monday. These particular silver coins are not sold by the US Mint directly to the public but instead through a network of dealers. Also, instead of having a fixed priced like collector coins, they are generally available for a few percentage points above their current melt values.
Lower Price
As for the price of this latest collector product, it is $179.95. That reflects a significant decrease from starting prices of prior silver coins — $100 lower than the first 2010-dated coin depicting Hot Springs National Park and $50 less that the last 2012-dated coin honoring Denali National Park. The pricing cut is the result of silver’s heavy slide in 2013.
Designs and Specifications for White Mountain Silver Coins
Shown on the reverse of the White Mountain silver coin is a design emblematic of the national forest. That design, created by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Phebe Hemphill, shows Mount Chocorua framed by birch trees. Inscriptions surrounding the White Mountain image include WHITE MOUNTAIN, NEW HAMPSHIRE, 2013, and E PLURIBUS UNUM.
Found on the obverse is a portrait of the first President of the United States, George Washington. The image, by John Flanagan, first appeared on circulating quarter dollars in 1932 and has been featured, with some modifications, on quarters ever since. Accordingly, it is found on the obverse of all America the Beautiful related coins including the five ounce uncirculated series. Obverse inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and QUARTER DOLLAR.
These coins are each struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver and feature a large diameter of three inches with an uncirculated satin finish and a Philadelphia Mint "P" mint mark. The fineness and weight are actually edge-incused on each piece.
White Mountain silver coins are encapsulated and presented in a protective outer box. A Certificate of Authenticity is also included.
