2014 Australian Map Shaped Koala Silver Coin Released
The 2014 Australian Map Shaped Koala Silver Coin is now available from the Perth Mint of Australia, the fifth release in its series of silver coins struck in the shape of the Australian continent with the prior four selling out.
Each of the newest coins is composed of one ounce of 99.9% pure silver and features a reverse design depicting a koala and its young. Mintage of the silver coin is limited to 6,000, which is the same as the previous four coins of the series. Those coins include the:
- 2012 Australian Map Shaped Kookaburra Coin
- 2012 Australian Map Shaped Emu Coin
- 2013 Australian Map Shaped Kangaroo Coin
- 2013 Australian Map Shaped Platypus Coin
In line for release later this year is a coin showcasing a Saltwater Crocodile.
Koala Silver Coin Design, Specifications and Order Details
Offered on the reverse of the 2014 Australian Map Shaped Koala Silver Coin is an adult koala carrying a baby joey on its back as designed by Ing Ing Jong. The two marsupials appear against a colored background of an Australian bush scene that includes eucalyptus trees. Inscriptions on the reverse are KOALA, 1 OZ 999 SILVER, 2014 and the Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
Obverses bear Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Obverse inscriptions include ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, 2014 and the legal tender face value of 1 DOLLAR.
Each Koala silver coin has a weight of 31.135 grams, a diameter of 40.60 mm and a thickness of 4.00 mm. These silver coins are struck as legal tender of Australia under the Australian Currency Act of 1965.
2014 Australian Map Shaped Koala Silver Coins are housed in a Perth Mint display case, ship with an illustrated shipper and a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
