2014 Brown Bear Silver Coin Fourth in Mother’s Love Series

Now available from the Perth Mint of Australia is the 2014 Brown Bear 1/2 Oz Silver Proof Coin. The release marks the fourth of five silver coins from the Perth’s Mother’s Love series.

Appearing on the reverse of each new coin is a colored image of a brown bear and her cub.

"From the time a mother brown bear welcomes the arrival of her litter, a maternal bond is formed," describes the Perth Mint in a release. "A mother brown bear is known to fight ferociously to safeguard her cubs, regardless of the size and strength of her adversary."

In the order of release from the Mother’s Love series, these Brown Bear coins follow Lioness Silver Coins, Asian Elephant Silver Coins and Giraffe Silver Coins. One more coin is scheduled in the program. It will feature Orangutans.

Coin Designs and Specifications

2014 Brown Bear Silver Coins offer a colored reverse design of a mother brown bear cuddling her cub. Behind the bears, an outline of a cave is shown with BROWN BEAR inscribed above. Near the creatures, the Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mint mark appears.

Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II is on obverses. Inscribed around the portrait are QUEEN ELIZABETH II, 1/2 oz 999 SILVER, 2014, TUVALU and 50 CENTS. These last two inscriptions indicate the coin is struck as legal tender of the island nation of Tuvalu with a face value is 50 cents.

All Mother’s Love series coins are in 1/2 ounce of .999 fine silver. They have a minimum gross weight of 15.591 grams, a diameter of 36.60 mm and a thickness of 2.30 mm.

Coins are shipped in a Perth Mint display case with a certificate of authenticity and an illustrated shipper. Available for purchase separately, shippers from all five Mother’s Love series coins may be displayed together in a single charcoal tray.
