2014 Kennedy Silver Coin Collection Swift in Sales Start

While the 50th Anniversary Kennedy Half-Dollar Silver Coin Collection is not in the United States Mint sales stats table below because of its newness, it is the biggest sales news of the week.

The four silver coin collection launched on Tuesday at noon, and by midnight the first 85,670 had been ordered, from the original 300,000 available. Broken out, in the first 10 minutes of the launch the Mint reportedly processed 14 orders per second on its website, and within the first 30 minutes had sold 36,000 units. These numbers happened without customers experiencing any delays, a sharp contrast to other highly anticipated releases. The Mint’s new ordering system appears to be doing its job.
In addition to early sales figures, news of early shipping also surfaced from the bureau. Its distribution center shipped approximately 14,000 units by 8:30 PM on Tuesday, the Mint said, which is delighting many customers. (For release details, read this article about the collection.)
