Depicted on the reverse of this newest silver coin is a flying Wandering Albatross set against a colored background emblematic of the Australian Antarctic Territory. The Wandering Albatross has the largest wingspan of any living bird, measuring up to 3.5 meters. With the wingspan, the albatross can travel vast distances, reaching several thousand kilometers in a week. In an average lifetime, the bird will fly further than any other on Earth.

The Australian Antarctic Territory series debuted in 2004 and has seen the following annual silver coins:

  • 2004 Mawson Station coin
  • 2005 Leopard Seal coin
  • 2006 Edgeworth David Base coin
  • 2007 Davis Station coin
  • 2008 Humpback Whale coin
  • 2009 South Magnetic Pole coin
  • 2010 Husky coin
  • 2011 Killer Whale coin
  • 2012 Emperor Penguin coin
  • 2013 Aurora Australis coin

Many of these silver coins achieved a quick sell-out. Only last year’s Aurora Australis Coin is still available from the Perth Mint, aside from this newest release.

Coin Designs, Specifications and Ordering
