2015 Lest We Forget Coin for WWI Fallen Soldiers

Honoring the "Spirit of the Fallen," the Perth Mint of Australia is offering a 2015 $30 Lest We Forget 1 Kilo Silver Coin in collector proof finish.

Struck in association with the Australian War Memorial, the silver coin is issued as part of the Perth Mint’s ANZAC Spirit 100th Anniversary series. Each is composed of one kilo of 99.9% pure silver.

"Over the past 100 years, there have been many poignant symbols and phrases that have come to be associated with military loss," describes the Perth Mint. "This spectacular 1 kilo silver coin commemorates Australia’s fallen soldiers and features the many burial sites around the world where our soldiers have been laid to rest."

Mintage for the collectible is very limited with just 500 available.

Lest We Forget Coin Designs and Specifications

A colored inner panel shows a Fallen Soldier Battle Cross as designed by Perth artist Wade Robinson. Behind, the landscape offers a rising sun. To either side of the panel are inscribed words and phrases associated with the fallen heroes, like ‘LEST we FORGET’.

"The phrase ‘Lest we Forget’ is often added as the final line in the Ode of Remembrance which is taken from Laurence Binyon’s poem For the Fallen, first published in 1914," the Mint says. "The Ode of Remembrance is regularly recited at memorial services commemorating the First World War around Australia, including ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day."

1 KILO 999 SILVER completes the reverse inscriptions along with the Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mint mark.

Struck as legal tender of Australia under the Australian Currency Act of 1965, the obverse has a portrait of the Queen. The image, by Ian Rank-Broadley, is surrounded by the inscriptions of ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, 2015 and the face value of 30 DOLLARS.

Each has a minimum gross weight of 1001.002 grams, a total silver weight of 32.151 troy ounces, a diameter of the coin is 100.60 mm, and a thickness of 14.60 mm.
