It’s 2015 but today at noon ET the United States Mint will release the 2014-dated Limited Edition Silver Proof Set. That’s because packaging issues delayed the release of the annual product, which has eight silver coins that are struck in collector proof finish.

The coins are not unique to the set, having been released previously in other U.S. Mint products, yet sales of these sets tend to be solid. The 2013 set ended at sales of 47,971. This latest set is limited to 50,000 and has the following silver coins:

  • One 2014-W Proof American Silver Eagle

  • One 2014- S Kennedy silver half-dollar
  • One 2014-S Roosevelt silver dime

American Silver Eagles have a composition of 99.9%. The other silver coins are in 90% silver and 10% copper. The weight of all the set’s silver coins totals 2.34 troy ounces, which places its melt value at about $36.46 (2.34 times the latest spot price of silver at 15.58 an ounce).

The U.S. Mint at San Francisco strikes all seven 90% proof silver coins. The West Point Mint makes the proof Silver Eagles
