"We will be striking additional coins and will notify you when they are available for sale," the Mint told its APs.

Shenandoah five ounce silver coins feature the same designs as companion quarters but are struck in 99.9% fine silver to a diameter of 3.0 inches. Two different silver coins in the five ounce size are produced by the United States Mint:

  • one for collectors in unirculated quality that is sold directly to the public for $154.95, and
  • one intended for investors that is sold through the Mint’s network of AP’s who buy each at $9.75, plus the coin’s melt value at the time of purchase.

Both silver coins are manufactured at the U.S. Mint facility in Philadelphia but only the collector version caries a denoting "P" mint mark.

Released on May 5, sales of the Shenandoah silver bullion coin are at 20,000 as of June 23. A total of 400 sold on Monday, depleting the inventory. Released on May 15, sales of the collectible Shenandoah silver uncirculated coin are at 23,611 as of June 15.
