2011-W Proof and Uncirculated American Silver Eagle Coin

The 2012 Silver Eagle Proof Coin will get released at the same debut price as last year's issue

Last week, the United States Mint posted a release date for the 2012-W American Silver Eagle Proof Coin via its website. In further preparation for that release, new pricing has the Eagle launching a few bucks under a previously announced sale price.

According to the Mint’s updated product schedule, its popular American Silver Eagle will be released on April 12, 2012. A notice published today in the Federal Register indicates that the 99.9% fine silver proof coin will be sold for $59.95. Mention the name "Titanic" and a majority of those who hear it will immediately recall stories of one of the most horrific maritime accidents in history. Acknowledging the profound place the sinking of the RMS Titanic still holds in society today, three major world mints have released silver commemorative coins to mark the centennial of that tragic event.

The Perth Mint of Australia has issued the 2012 $1 RMS Titanic Silver Proof Coin, the UK Royal Mint has released the 2012 £5 Titanic 100th Anniversary Alderney Silver Proof Coin, and finally, the Royal Canadian Mint recently debuted the 2012 $10 RMS Titanic Fine Silver Coin.

All three silver commemorative coins contain different Titanic imagery emblematic of the majestic passenger ship to honor those who perished aboard her and are available now from their respective minting facilities. Read More…

2012 Star-Spangled Banner Silver Dollars

The newest items to burst on the United States Mint’s sales list were the 2012 Star-Spangled Banner Silver Dollars, $5 gold coins and the companion two-coin proof set.

Collectors quickly began buying them as soon as they launched last Monday, March 5. Three of the five available offerings contained silver, while the other two were composed of gold. In total, 69,406 of the orders included Star-Spangled Banner Silver Dollars. Gleaming more than the rest were the individual proofs at 44,479, followed by the individual uncirculated dollars with 18,763. The two-coin proof set accounted for sales of 6,164. Read More…

World War I Centennial Silver Dollar Commemorative Coins Proposed

World War I PhotoLegislation requiring the Secretary of the Treasury to strike a silver dollar in remembrance of the centennial of World War I was recently introduced in the House of Representatives. Under the terms of the bill, up to 350,000 commemorative coins would be issued in the year 2017.

The World War I American Veterans Centennial Commemorative Coin Act, H.R. 4107, was brought forward by Rep. Doug Lamborn [R-CO5] on February 29, 2012. The Act seeks to create a silver dollar in collector uncirculated and proof qualities with designs emblematic of the centennial of America’s involvement in World War I. US Infantry Soldier Dollar Sales Surge as 5 Ounce Silver Coins Retreat

Weekly United States Mint sales numbers were certainly a mixed pot. Demand catapulted for the commemorative Infantry Soldier Silver Dollars and the Defenders of Freedom Set while sales retreated for the suspended America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins and the 2011-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle. As for silver sets, only one slowed.

With fewer choices available, collectors and enthusiasts turned to the new Infantry Soldier dollars for their silver intake. As in the past two reports, the proof Infantry Soldier dollar led, this time with 19,338, and the Defenders of Freedom Set followed with 9,356. Now that 32,762 sets in all have sold, only 17,238 remain available. The next most popular coin was the uncirculated Infantry Soldier dollar which climbed by 7,991.

All of the products returned at their previous price points. The America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins are $204.95 each, and the 2011-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle is $45.95.

American FootballIntroduced in the U.S. House of Representatives on February 28, 2012 is legislation proposing Pro Football Hall of Fame commemorative coins minted in denominations of $5 gold, $1 silver and 50c clad.
