Commemorative Star-Spangled Banner Silver Dollars and $5 Gold Coins Available

The United States Mint today, March 5, 2012, began selling bicentennial 2012 Star-Spangled Banner commemorative products. These include uncirculated and proof Star-Spangled Banner Silver Dollars and $5 gold coins and a two-coin proof set.
Congress authorized this commemorative series with the passage of the Star-Spangled Banner Commemorative Coin Act which was signed into law (Public Law 111-232) by President Barack Obama on August 16, 2010. Silver Eagle Bullion Coin Sales Slow, Yet Score 4th Best February

2012 American Silver Eagle Bullion Coin
Last month, United States Mint sales of American Silver Eagle bullion coins took a significant downturn from previous months. According to the U.S. Mint, its authorized purchasers ordered 1,490,000 in February 2012.
While that number may seem notable, it is far off amounts sold in any given month over the last few years, with the only exception being November 2011 when the Mint delivered 1,384,000. Excluding that outliner, one has to look back to October 2008 to find a month in which fewer silver coins were purchased. 2012 Year of the Dragon High Relief Proof Silver Coin

Issued as the newest release of the Australian Lunar Series II from the Perth Mint of Australia is the 2012 Year of the Dragon High Relief Proof Silver Coin.
This new strike contains the same reverse image of a dragon as seen on other recent Perth Lunar coins, however it marks the first time it has been struck on the concave surfaces of a high relief proof silver coin. Read More…
US Mint Sales: Silver Coins and Sets Top Sellers, Infantry Dollars Led

US Mint sales slowed for nearly all silver coins and sets, but data also shows that those same silver coins and sets were in most demand as one or the other appeared seven times in a list of top ten weekly sellers.

Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar products, including the Defenders of Freedom Set, held the top three spots for best US Mint sellers.
2012 Infantry Soldier Silver Dollars and the Defenders of Freedom Set still led the pack by taking the top three positions, and the 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set the 2011-W Uncirculated American Silver Eagles raced to take the fourth and fifth place for highest sales. Silver Prices Advance 4.2% in February

Silver prices were set to rumble in February until diving on the final day of the month. Silver still sang loud as futures in New York settled 4.2% higher than a month ago, but the level could have been nearer 12% had prices stayed closer to Tuesday’s 5.5-month high of $37.21 an ounce.
On Wednesday and in closing February, silver prices for May delivery plummeted $2.56, or 6.9% to $34.64 an ounce on the Comex in New York. Prices traded as low as $33.83 an ounce and as high as $37.58 an ounce. That is a whopping $3.75 swing. To describe it in another way, the melt value of an old 1964 Kennedy half dollar ranged from $12.24 to $13.59 in a single day. Read More…

Star-Spangled Banner Silver Dollar Coin Images – The obverse design, by Joel Iskowitz, depicts Lady Liberty waving the 15-star, 15-stripe Star-Spangled Banner flag with Fort McHenry in the background. The reverse design, by William C. Burgard III, depicts a waving modern American flag.

2012 Moose Silver Coin Fourth in Canadian Wildlife Series

The Royal Canadian Mint has released the 2012 Moose silver bullion coin, the fourth of at least six planned issues within its Canadian Wildlife coin series and the final one with this year’s date.
All coins in the popular series feature an investment-grade purity of .9999 fine silver, a face value of $5 and a reverse design showcasing a Canadian wildlife theme. Read More…
