Release dates and reduced prices have been announced for this year's commemorative coins, including the Star-Spangled Banner Silver Dollars

Release dates are available and pricing for the upcoming 2012 silver dollar commemorative coins have been reduced by the United States Mint, according to a notice published in the Federal Register on Thursday, February 9.

New price points for the yet to be released Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar and the Star-Spangled Banner Silver Dollar will be lower than what had previously been announced. It was just two weeks ago when the U.S. Mint initially declared what both commemorative coins would be sold for in a notice that appeared on January 26, 2012. And those prices were $5 higher. Sales of sets, including the 2012 ATB Quarters Silver Proof Set, improved over the previous week

Silver products spiked in the most recent sales figures from the United States Mint. The 2011-W Uncirculated Silver Eagles soared, and the 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set also skyrocketed.

At the top of the chart again was collectible Uncirculated Silver Eagles, but this time their weekly gain was 14,286. Previously they jumped by 4,455. Perhaps the rising price of silver called more attention to the pieces. According to the latest United States Mint sales stats, the 2011-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle picked up steam and improved its week-over-week gains, as did several other items, like the 5 ounce silver uncirculated coins. The 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set, on the other hand, slowed but was still a strong seller.

Sales of the 2011-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle rose another 4,455 in this round, beating their prior pick-up of 3,062 by 1,393. Sales of the American Silver Eagle bullion coin surpassed 6 million in January

Silver Eagle bullion coin sales marched once again into record territory last month — an occurrence which has become almost commonplace in the last few years. According to the United States Mint, a total of 6,107,000 of the investment grade coins were ordered by the Mint’s authorized purchasers in January 2012.

That six million plus figure firmly places the month as the second best ever during the Eagle’s twenty-six year history. January 2012 now ranks second only to the January 2011 record which reached the unprecedented sales level of 6,422,000. Read More…

Silver Prices Rally 19% in January

Silver Update

Silver registered its best start to the year in nearly three decades. Easily outperforming all other precious metals, silver prices soared 19.2% for the month in both New York futures and in London.

On Tuesday, March silver futures edged down 26.5 cents, or 0.8%, to close at $33.262 an ounce on the Comex in New York. The white metal traded between an intraday low of $32.930 an ounce and a high of $34.130, the highest price since November 16. Read More…
