US Mint Sales: Mount Hood 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins Debut

Another America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin kicked off to a solid start, although US Mint sales show it moved slower than the previous issues in the series. The collector Mount Hood coin launched Thursday, July 28. Die-hard fans of the extra-large .999 fine silver issues grabbed 14,759 in the first four days.
Because the time frames vary, it is difficult to compare Mount Hood debut sales to the immediate previous strike. The 2010-P Grand Canyon Silver Uncirculated Coin started with 19,300 in six days. The Yosemite Silver Uncirculated Coin and Yellowstone Silver Uncirculated Coin, however, clearly opened with more gusto at 20,511 and 24,626 in their earliest four days. 2011 American Silver Eagle Bullion Coin
The United States Mint sold fewer of its American Silver Eagle bullion coins in July 2011 than the previous month or from the same time a year ago. Although sales slowed for the .999 fine silver coins, the month ranked in the top fifteen of all-time and it was the second best ever July. Additionally, the sales pace remains on track for the all-time high annual record.
The United States Mint in July delivered 2,968,000 Silver Eagle bullion coins to its network of distributors. That was down 12.8 percent from June 2011 and 0.4 percent lower than July 2010 which retains the number one spot as the best ever July. The Silver Eagle series was introduced by the Mint in 1986. US Mint Issues Statement on Five Ounce Silver Coin Varieties and Finishes

Varying finishes on the America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins have been confirmed by the United States Mint in a statement issued Wednesday morning.
This came following coin collector reports and after NGC announced the discovery of a 2010-P Grand Canyon five ounce silver coin variety with a "Light Finish" and the 2010-P Yellowstone five ounce silver coin error "With Unfinished Reverse."
The United States Mint applies a vapor-blasting process to the collector five ounce silver coins after they are struck with their designs to give them a special matte finish. Read More…

The 2010-P Mount Hood National Forest 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin went on sale from the United States Mint today, July 28, 2011, at Noon (Eastern Time).

The United States Mint sent the following image of the 2010-P Mount Hood 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin within an e-mail to customers promoting the coin’s release.
The Mint is offering each of the Mount Hood uncirculated coins for $279.95 with an initial order limit of one coin per household. These strikes are each composed of five ounces of .999 fine silver and feature a reverse design emblematic of Mount Hood National Forest found in the state of Oregon. Read More…
US Mint Sales: Silver Coins Surge, Yosemite 5 Oz Coin Sells Out

Demand for major silver coins has soared, according to the latest round of US Mint sales stats. It was another impressive week for the 2011 Proof Silver Eagles. Their sales catapulted 133,420 in seven days, supported by the Mint’s removal of their household limits and greater attention to silver coins as silver prices have recorded marked gains. The Eagle jump was more than double the gain they made in the previous round, which was 52,050. Since their June 30 launch, collectors have grabbed 593,461 of the proof version, or 69% of the 860,000 the United States Mint sold of last year’s strike.
Another group to spike was the 9/11 silver medals. Their combined total leaped by 16,488 compared to 2,929 previously. The West Point issues continued to outpace the Philadelphia issues 9,830 to 6,658 this time. Read More…
2010-P Yellowstone Five Ounce Silver Coin Error Discovered

NGC on Monday announced the discovery of what could be the first error in the America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Coin series. The error was found on a 2010-P Yellowstone National Park Silver Uncirculated Coin, and it is peaking many collectors’ interests.

The Yellowstone silver coin is a collector product that was sold by the United States Mint for $279.95. It debuted on May 17, 2011 and reached a sell out on June 1, 2011 as buyers ordered all 27,000. Read More…
Grand Canyon Five Ounce Silver Coin Variety Discovered

A new variety has been discovered in the United States Mint’s America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Coin series. In fact, it signifies the first variety to be discovered and documented in the five ounce series which includes both bullion and uncirculated quality silver coins.
