US Mint Silver Coin Sales Comeback; DAV Commemoratives Top 200,000

Silver collector coins experienced a robust sales comeback in the latest round of United States Mint sales figures, while American Silver Eagle bullion coins continue to power forward. All of the sets and individual silver dollars beat their prior numbers, some were up double and triple digit.
A scant 7,229 of the 2010 Boy Scouts of America Silver Dollars remain from the 350,000 that Congress allotted. They are all proof versions, since the uncirculated already sold out weeks ago. Silver Prices Soar 11% in London, 4.2% in New York

Silver prices rallied this week, pulling away from the declines of the prior week. The metal soared 11% in London and 4.2% in New York.
Silver began its rally in the U.S. on Friday of last week, with analysts saying some investors were buying the metal as an alternative to gold which was too expensive for them. Read More…
US Mint Silver Coin Sales: Eagles Soar, Collector Coins Drop

Sales of American Silver Eagle bullion coins picked up momentum last week, while numismatic silver coins continued to slow. None of the sets nor individual silver dollars beat their prior numbers, according to the latest United States Mint sales report.
Not many 2010 Boy Scouts of America Silver Dollars left Mint doors last week. The uncirculated version sold out April 26, but their sales were adjusted down by -1,375. The proofs advanced just 2,326. Together they climbed by 951 to 339,560, leaving only 10,440 remaining as of Sunday for the Mint to sell.

Mother’s Day Silver Dollar Commemorative Coins Approved in House

Coin legislation that has passed in the U.S. House of Representatives would mark the 100th anniversary of Mother’s Day with up to 400,000 commemorative silver dollars.
The Mother’s Day Centennial Commemorative Coin Act, H.R. 2421, was easily approved on May 5, 2010, with the help of 291 U.S. House cosponsors. It is now before the Senate, which has its own version of the bill (S. 1012) as well. Read More…
Silver Pares Losses in First Week of May

Silver prices tumbled for much of the week before recovering Friday to pare losses.
Metals were led up and down over concerns of the Greek debt woes, with added worries that the crisis could spread to other euro-zone countries.
The fears helped safe-haven investments, like gold, but brought down industrial metals that would suffer weakened demand should the crisis deepen enough to jeopardize a global recovery. Read More…
