US Mint Sales: Limited Edition Silver Proof Sets Climb

Demand grew for 2012 Limited Edition Silver Proof Sets according to the newest array of U.S. Mint’s weekly sales data, but it dwindled for two other popular products containing silver coins.

2012 United States Mint Limited Edition Silver Proof Set

Sales of 2012 United States Mint Limited Edition Silver Proof Sets grew during the week before Christmas

While U.S. Mint sales did not exactly explode, collectors still pulled out their credit cards for 515 more 2012 Limited Edition Silver Proof Sets than they had in the prior week. Orders jumped by 3,098 in the latest round compared to 2,583 previously, making the most recent total 30,035. That leaves 19,965 sets left since their maximum mintage is 50,000.

Limited Edition Silver Proof Sets, however, were not the best-selling silver product from the U.S. Mint. That title went to the 2012 Silver Proof Set for the 6,563 orders it received. Its gain was down from the 9,820 in the prior week when last minute gift shoppers were buying. At this time, the total number of 2012 Silver Proof Sets sold this year ring in at 390,259.

In third place and also moving slower were 2012-W Uncirculated American Silver Eagle coins. Their total advanced by 2,852 to hit 182,033 after adding 3,976 earlier. Although the silver coins have been in the top three for several weeks, their cumulative sales are nowhere close to the new total for the 2011-W Uncirculated American Silver Eagle coins, which is now 309,194. As a reminder, it and other 2011-dated silver coins go off sale Monday.
