The United States Mint sent the following image of the 2010-P Yosemite National Park 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin within an e-mail to customers promoting the coin’s release.Interest in the America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins remains strong among collectors as the third strike in the series has now attained a sellout status. The United States Mint posted a "Waiting List Notice" on its store page for the 2010-P Yosemite National Park 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin informing customers of the situation.

The Yosemite uncirculated coin made its debut earlier this month on Thursday, June 9, 2011, when the US Mint first started offering them for sale. In only fourteen days, the entire mintage of 27,000 coins has been sold leading the Mint to post this notice:

Waiting List Notice: The number of orders we have taken meets the maximum limit for the 2010 America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin™ — Yosemite National Park Coin. You may still place an order for this product, which will go on a waiting list. If a product becomes available due to an order cancellation, we will fulfill orders from the waiting list on a first-in, first-served basis.

This two week sell-out was reached despite the fact that the United States Mint had an order limit of one per household in place, indicating that (at least on paper) 27,000 different households were interested in obtaining the third release of the America the Beautiful Silver Uncirculated Coins. Of course, this quick sell-out is not without precedence and consequently not too surprising.

The first two issues in the collector grade five ounce coins also sold out at a comparable rate. The first Hot Springs National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin disappeared off the Mint’s shelves in only fourteen days as well. It was released on April 28, 2011. That launch was followed a few weeks later with the release of the Yellowstone National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin on May 17. It attained a sell-out at a slightly longer 16 days.

It should be noted that officially, the Yosemite National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin is not sold-out quite yet. As the Waiting List Notice indicates, the United States Mint has sufficient orders in place to account for the entire mintage of 27,000 coins, but it is offering the Waiting List as a means to insure all of the coins do get sold. If for some reason a previous order is cancelled, then the Mint will use the waiting list to guarantee a complete sell-out.

Those wishing to place their names on the waiting list may do so by calling the United States Mint at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468) or via their website of http://www.usmint.gov/catalog. This option will likely only be available for a short time.

Collectors will now be looking forward to the next two releases of America the Beautiful Five Ounce Coins which will occur with the Grand Canyon National Park Coin on June 29 and the Mount Hood National Forest Coin on July 28. Whether or not those two strikes will sell out as quick, only time will tell. The five 2011-dated uncirculated coins will launch this year as well, but their release dates have not been published.
