2009 US Mint Silver Proof Price and Release

The US Mint has set the price for the 2009 United States Mint Silver Proof Set®, but the sale date is still fluid. The set is listed to go on sale sometime this "summer" for the price of $52.95, according to the latest Mint product schedule and notification announcement published on the Federal Register.

The Mint is currently selling the 2008 Silver Proof Set, which went on sale August 26, 2008, for $44.95. (The latest silver coin sales figures show 749,578 have been sold.)

So why is there a price increase of $8 for the 2009 set? One reasons is that there will be six quarters in the set this year instead of the normal five because of each coin from the DC & US Territories Quarter program. Another reason is the inclusion of the four 2009 Lincoln Cents instead of the traditional single proof penny.
