The United States Mint published a new product schedule with release dates for several new items, including the 2012 Silver Proof Set and other popular collector sets that are issued annually.

2011 Silver Proof Set

Like last year's set shown above, this year's Silver Proof Set is expected to get released at a price of $67.95

According to the latest revised schedule, the U.S. Mint plans on releasing the 2012 Silver Proof Set on June 4, 2012. The other core sets will launch a bit earlier as the 2012 Proof Set is expected to hit the market on May 7 and the Uncirculated Mint Set on May 21.

At this time, the latest information from the U.S. Mint indicates that the list price of the 2012 Silver Proof Set will be $67.95, the same as last year’s initial price. However, prices on products composed of silver are conditional and subject to change throughout the year based on market volatility.

In the Silver Proof Set are 14 coins. Each is produced in San Francisco in proof quality and bear the ‘S’ mint mark. Seven are struck from 90% silver and seven are in the same clad composition as their circulating counterparts. The 90% silver coins include the Kennedy Half Dollar, the Roosevelt Dime, and the five 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters honoring El Yunque National Forest, Chaco Culture National Historical Park, Acadia National Park, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Denali National Park Quarter. Together, these coins account for 1.338 ounces of silver.

The remaining clad coins are the Jefferson Nickel, the Lincoln Cent, the Native American $1 Coin, and the four 2012 Presidential $1 Coins that honor Chester A. Arthur, Grover Cleveland (1st term), Benjamin Harrison and again Grover Cleveland (2nd term).

Each year the sets rank toward the top of the Mint’s list of best performing products. Last year when the 2011 Silver Proof Set launched on January 25, 2011, collectors scooped up 209,367 in the first six days alone. As of March 19, 2012, the United States Mint had sold 555,618 of the 2011 sets, and they are still available as of this writing. (See always updated sales figures.) The last published U.S. Mint sales figure for the 2010 set was 585,414.
