Proof and Uncirculated 2012 Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar Commemorative Coins

2012 Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar Commemorative Coins

The biggest sellers of the United States Mint numismatic silver items were the newest releases, the 2012 Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar Commemorative Coins and Defenders of Freedom Set. No other sales came close, but in the bullion market, demand for the Silver Eagles rebounded tremendously after crawling in the last report.

Combined, 54,675 of the new Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar coins sold between their release on Thursday, February 16 and Monday, February 20. Collectors were given three options: the proof version, the uncirculated, and the proof in a Defenders of Freedom Set with a replica dog tag and chain plus decorative packaging.

Leading the pack were the individual proof silver dollars at 26,262, plus 16,222 in the Defenders of Freedom Set. The uncirculated started with 12,191. The commemorative set is limited to 50,000 units, and the maximum mintage across all options is 350,000.

The next three best sellers were the Uncirculated Silver Eagle, the 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set, and the week old 2011-P Chickasaw National Recreation Area 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin. Each advanced by 3,518; 3,101; and 2,078. Total sales for the Chickasaw coin crossed the 10,000 threshold to land at 10,736.

As mentioned earlier, bullion Silver Eagles experienced a comeback. Since Wednesday, February 15, Authorized Purchasers ordered 415,000 Silver Eagles compared to just 165,000 previously. February’s total finally cleared the one million milestone, with under seven days remaining, and is now resting at 1,250,000. So far, 7,357,000 Silver Eagles have been bought in 2012.
