2013 Maple Leaf 1/2 Oz Silver Coin Available

The Royal Canadian Mint expands its extremely popular silver maple leaf product line with the recent release of the 2013 Maple Leaf 1/2 Oz Silver Coin.

Mintage of the strike is set at 50,000 with each composed of one-half ounce of 99.99% pure silver. Current pricing is $39.95 CAD.

The maple leaf has been considered a symbol of Canada and those who inhabit it for nearly three centuries. As such, it is not surprising to find the national symbol on many coins of the country including this newest release which features the likeness of two Sugar Maple leaves.

"Canada is home to 10 maples species including the majestic Sugar Maple, favored for its sap as well as its strong, hard wood," describes the Royal Canadian Mint on the coin’s product page. "Visitors come from around the world to witness the maple-dominated forests’ celebrated makeover; and later, in early spring, the Sugar Maple stuns once again with its sweet springtime bounty."

Maple trees can be found in every province of Canada.

Maple Leaf Silver Coin Designs and Specifications

Two Sugar Maple Leaves are depicted on the reverse of the 1/2 ounce fine silver coin. The design is the work of Canadian artist Pierre Leduc who created the image highlighting the sparsely veined leaves. One of the leaves is shown much larger and is to the left with a smaller leaf off to the right.

Reverse inscriptions include "CANADA," "10 DOLLARS" and "2013." The artist’s initials of PL can also be seen.

The silver coins are struck as legal tender of Canada with a face value of $10. As legal tender, the obverse contains the Susanna Blunt effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Obverse inscriptions include "ELIZABETH II" and "D G REGINA."

Each silver coin ships in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell case. A serialized certificate is also included which indicates the maximum 50,000 mintage.

The .9999 fine specimen quality strike features a weight of 15.87 grams and a diameter of 34 mm.
