Each silver coin is in proof quality from 1/2 ounce of 99.9% pure silver and features a maximum mintage of 10,000.

Regent Bowerbirds are indigenous to Australia and appear in the rainforests and associated areas from Queensland to New South Wales.

Like other bowerbirds, the male of the species builds structures known as bowers to attract mates. However, Regents are known for building elaborate ones and can go as far as creating "saliva paint" to decorate the bowers. The Regent has been known to use leaves as paintbrushes. As such, it represents one of the few known species of birds to use tools.

Regent Bowerbird Silver Coin Designs and Specifications

Reverses of the silver coins bear color images of a male and female Regent Bowerbird. The male appears close and features the standard colors of yellows and blacks. Off in the distance, a female is seen hued in browns. Both birds are perched on branches of a tree.

Placed at the top of the wildlife scene is the inscription "REGENT BOWERBIRD." The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark is also on the reverse.

Shown on the silver coin obverse is the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Inscriptions include "ELIZABETH II," "AUSTRALIA," "1/2 OZ 999 SILVER," "2013" and the legal tender face value of "50 CENTS."

Each Regent Bowerbird Silver Coin has a diameter of 36.60 mm, a thickness of 2.30 mm and a gross weight of 15.591 grams.

Earlier silver coins in the Birds of Australia Series depict the Red-Tailed Black Cockatoo and the Budgerigar. The next two silver coins will depict a Rainbow Lorikeet and a Splendid Fairy-wren.

The 2013 Regent Bowerbird Silver Coin is presented within a black display case and ships with a numbered certificate of authenticity inside an illustrated shipper. Current pricing is AUS $59.09, or US $61.73. The prices are subject to change based on silver market conditions.
