One of the most highly anticipated collectible products of the year launches on Monday, May 4, with the release of the 2015 March of Dimes Special Silver Set.

March of Dimes Special Silver Set

[Shown: March of Dimes Special Silver Set. Both the dimes and the silver dollar feature portraits of the March of Dimes’s founder Franklin D. Roosevelt.]

Commemorating the 75th anniversary of the March of Dimes Foundation, this silver set will be available directly from the United States Mint for $61.95. Its mintage is capped at 75,000 with a household order limit of 5 also established.

Presented in the set are three 90% silver coins, including:

  • a new reverse proof Roosevelt dime from the Philadelphia Mint,
  • a new proof silver Roosevelt dime from the West Point Mint, and
  • a previously issued proof March of Dimes Silver Dollar from the West Point Mint.

Unlike the proof March of Dimes Silver Dollar that is also sold individually, the two 10-cent silver coins are exclusive to the set. They are also first ever issues.

"For the first time, the U.S. Mint will issue both a reverse proof silver dime from Philadelphia and a proof silver dime from West Point." promotes the U.S. Mint on its website. "These coins are only available in this special silver coin set commemorating the 75th anniversary of the March of Dimes."

As described in more detail when they were released in March, the silver dollars bear obverses with portraits of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Dr. Jonas Salk — two figures instrumental in the fight against polio. Reverses show a baby resting in the hand of a parent, which is emblematic of the Foundation’s mission for healthy babies.

We also talked about the set’s two dimes in March. They offer images familiar to American coinage as they have appeared on the 10-cent coins since 1946. However, made for collectors and uniquely for the Foundation’s 75th anniversary, their finishes are unlike those found in circulation in that they bear frosted design elements that contrast against other mirror-like design elements.

All three silver coins are encapsulated, presented in a black velvet clamshell case, and accompanied with a certificate of authenticity.
