2017 American Silver Eagle Coin Sales Slow in April

While the 2017 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set edged its way up by 792 to 58,209 in the most recent United States Mint weekly sales stats, the products that lost their footing were the news makers.
Bullion 2017 American Silver Eagles logged April sales of only 835,000 coins
The only three losers on the sales chart all had silver in them, and the one experiencing the biggest drop was the 2017-W Proof American Eagle Silver. Its sales plummeted by -18,820 and that pushed its total down to 243,763. When the coin debuted a few short weeks ago, its opening weekend was higher, with 266,173 in sales.
Some common reasons when sales numbers are negative are customer returns, internal accounting audits, and credit card payment issues.
The two other products with falling numbers were last year’s 2016-W Proof American Eagle Silver and the 2016 Uncirculated American Silver Eagle. Their numbers decreased by -2,522 and -2,699 for new respective totals of 554,993 and 193,649.
April sales of bullion 2017 American Eagle Silvers ended at 835,000 coins for the lowest monthly total this year. Compared to last month’s 1,615,000, sales fell 48.3%, and when measured against April 2016, sales dropped 79.5% from 4,072,000. Overall, 2017’s year-to-date sales of 8,792,500 fell 53.5% from the 18,914,500 sold through the first four months of 2016.
The table below shows the latest sales stats for collector coins and related silver products from the U.S. Mint. Sunday, April 23, is the as of date for the standard collectibles and Friday, April 28, is the as of date for the bullion products.
