Fort McHenry Silver Coins Sparkle in Sales Debut

Two silver coins were the stars in the latest United States Mint sales report, topping all other numismatic products to include less expensive clad coins and sets.

Appearing on the Mint’s sales board for the first time was the new 2013-P Fort McHenry 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin. It was the second most sought Mint product. The best-seller was the 2013-W Proof Silver Eagle, and it hit a new milestone to boot.
Strong demand for the proof Silver Eagle continued, and with it the total number sold blew across 700,000. Collectors pocketed 25,817 more of the silver coins, which was their highest weekly surge in four weeks. In the previous round, 17,312 had been ordered. The proof Silver Eagle’s new sales total came to 713,942.
Returning to the new 2013 Fort McHenry 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins, avid followers of the giant three inch (diameter) 99.9% pure silver coins quickly pounced on 10,878 of them between their release on Thursday, August 29, and Sunday, September 1. This opening number outpaced the inaugural sales number for each of the America the Beautiful Silver Uncirculated Coins released since 2012.
