The wait is over. On Monday, March 17, 2014, the United States Mint launched the first investor-quality 2014 America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coin, and demand was strong.

Great Smoky Mountains Quarter

Great Smoky Mountains National Park coins all bear the same designs, whether they are the quarter or three-inch, five-ounce silver coins

By Tuesday, 10,500 of the Great Smoky Mountains Silver Bullion Coins sold through the Mint’s exclusive network of Authorized Purchasers (APs). These silver coins are not offered directly to the public. Instead, they are distributed by a network of qualifying wholesalers, brokerage companies, precious metal firms, coin dealers and the like. This group buys in bulk from the Mint for a small premium over the spot price of silver and resells the coins to the public.

Investors have been waiting since last November for the next ATB 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coin. When the Mount Rushmore silver coin launched on November 4, 2013, demand was slightly lower, as reflected in its first day’s total, which hit 6,000. However, the Mount Rushmore coins quickly sold out at 35,000 in its third week of availability. The mintage limit for the new Great Smoky Mountains silver coin has not been announced, although the Mint said they anticipate having enough to fulfill demand.

In collector products, sales soared for the 2014-W Proof American Silver Eagle. The Silver Eagles were the week’s best-selling numismatic product. With an increase of 24,058 new orders, they easily broke the 400,000 sales milestone. Their new total clocked in at 410,103.

In the table below are the latest sales stats for collector silver coins and related products from the U.S. Mint. Sunday, March 16, 2014 is the “as of” date.
