Sales Mixed for U.S. Collector Silver Coins, Higher for Bullion Coins

Weekly U.S. sales stats showed higher interest for bullion silver coins, 2012-W American Silver Eagles and 2012 silver sets, but interest in collector uncirculated America the Beautiful Silver Coins declined.

Sales levels improved for proof and uncirculated 2012-W American Silver Eagles, but they were mixed overall for other U.S. Mint silver coins

Collectors grabbed 15,766 proof American Silver Eagles during the first full week since their price hike. That compares to the 8,835 purchased in the prior report, which also encompassed a portion of the coins’ temporary suspension. The latest jump pushed the silver coins up to 790,348. If the enthusiastic pace continues, they will shoot past the 800K milestone by next week’s sales report.

2012 Silver Proof Sets were the second most hunted numismatic silver product, although collectors prowled for them slower. Weekly sales jumped 3,304 versus 3,125 previously. They stand at 314,585.

Rounding out the top three on silver collectors’ minds were 2012-W Uncirculated American Silver Eagles. 2,839 were taken this time after 1,589 were ordered in the prior round. To date, collectors have ordered 149,504 since their launch on August 2, 2012.

Interest retreated for each of the collector America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins. As a group, the coins advanced 1,059 compared to prior 1,082.

As for investors, they certainly had their sights on America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coins. The Denali silver coin started with 5,200 on Monday and added another 300 on Tuesday. Hawaii Volcanoes silver coins moved up by 2,300 to arrive at 13,700, and Acadia silver coin totals grew too, advancing another 2,000 to hit 20,500.

Bullion Silver Eagles experienced some action too. Their numbers increased by 766,000 to reach 2,584,000 for October and 28,379,000 for the year. At this point, they are only 387,500 coins away from tying with 2009’s year-end number of 28,766,500.

The Star-Spangled Banner commemorative products are limited to 100,000 gold coins across all applicable product options, which includes the Two-Coin Set, while the silver coin limit is 500,000.
