US Mint Silver Coin Sales Slow, Star-Spangled Banner Commemorative Leads

Numismatic silver coin products moved slowly for a second straight week, per the latest U.S. Mint sales report. The leaders of the group were individual commemorative coins, and similar to prior weeks, the proof Star-Spangled Banner Silver Dollar was the clear front runner.

7,237 of the orders were for the proof Star-Spangled Banner dollar, and that pushed its latest sales total up to 67,313. Demand for the uncirculated silver coin was considerably less, with orders of 2,613. As for the Two-Coin Proof Set, just 425 sold. U.S. Mint Publishes 2012 Silver Proof Set Release Date and Price

The United States Mint published a new product schedule with release dates for several new items, including the 2012 Silver Proof Set and other popular collector sets that are issued annually.

Like last year's set shown above, this year's Silver Proof Set is expected to get released at a price of $67.95

According to the latest revised schedule, the U.S. Mint plans on releasing the 2012 Silver Proof Set on June 4, 2012. The other core sets will launch a bit earlier as the 2012 Proof Set is expected to hit the market on May 7 and the Uncirculated Mint Set on May 21. Read More…

A new silver set has been issued by the UK Royal Mint celebrating the 125th anniversary of one of the shortest lived British coins in history. The Double-Florin Anniversary Two-Coin Silver Set is available now, albeit perhaps for a short time owing to a very limited mintage of just 125 sets.

2012 American Silver Eagle Bullion Coin

Bullion American Silver Eagles stole the spotlight from the U.S. Mint’s numismatic silver products, per the latest sales figures. Demand for the bullion Silver Eagles jumped while it lessened for the collectibles.

Sales of the bullion coin surged 797,000 since last Wednesday to 1,862,000 for the month. In the previous report, the Silver Eagles gained 370,000. With the latest forward blast, the monthly total moved from the fifth best-ever March to the fourth. Achieving that third best spot, however, will be a challenge since it would take another 905,001 to beat the March 2011 total of 2,767,000. Read More…

Senate Passes U.S. Marshals Commemorative Coins in Silver, Gold and Clad

It appears certain that the United States Mint will be striking commemorative coins composed of silver, gold and clad in year 2015 to honor the 225th Anniversary of the U.S. Marshals Service. Legislation requiring the commemoratives passed in the U.S. Senate on Thursday, March 15, 2012.

The Senate approved an amended H.R. 886, named the United States Marshals Service 225th Anniversary Commemorative Coin Act, by Unanimous Consent. The Senate version follows passage of the original H.R. 886 approved in the United States House of Representatives exactly three months earlier, on December 15, 2011. Read More…

Final Day for Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar Introductory Pricing

Pricing for 2012 Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar products will be raised after 5:00 PM ET on Monday, March 19, 2012 after having been on sale since February 16, 2012. The two commemorative coins offered by the United States Mint in proof and uncirculated qualities will see price increases of $5 each. The proof silver dollar will go from $49.95 to $54.95 while the uncirculated silver dollar will rise from $44.95 to $49.95.
