US Mint Suspends Eagle and ATB 5 Oz Coin Sales as Silver Prices Surge

Sales of U.S. Mint collector products struck from 99.9 percent silver were suspended Friday as silver prices advanced closer to their melt values. No longer available to order are America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins and the American Silver Eagle Uncirculated Coin.
U.S. Mint coin pricing policy closely follows precious metals prices in London. The London silver Fix jumped $1 to $35.57 an ounce on Friday, extending its winning streak to six straight days in which prices have rallied $2.39, or 7.2 percent. In terms of melt values, that brought the five ounce coins to just $27 away from their U.S. Mint listed price of $204.95 and the uncirculated Silver Eagle only $10.38 away from its price of $45.95. 2012 Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar Commemorative Coins
The biggest sellers of the United States Mint numismatic silver items were the newest releases, the 2012 Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar Commemorative Coins and Defenders of Freedom Set. No other sales came close, but in the bullion market, demand for the Silver Eagles rebounded tremendously after crawling in the last report.
Combined, 54,675 of the new Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar coins sold between their release on Thursday, February 16 and Monday, February 20. 2012 Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar Commemorative Coins are now available in both proof and uncirculated qualities from the United States Mint as well as the Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar Defenders of Freedom Set. The U.S. Mint began selling the coins and set today, February 16, 2012.
As announced late last week, the collector proof silver dollar is available at a price of $49.95 while the uncirculated silver dollar will cost $44.95. These are introductory prices. Each coin will go up $5 at 5:00 PM (ET) on March 19, 2012. Read More…

Debut sales of the 2011-P Chickasaw National Recreation Area 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin for Oklahoma were released by the United States Mint and they proved better than expected. Other big hitters in this week’s U.S. Mint sales report was the 2011-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle and the 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set.
The tenth America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin finally hit the market, and between its launch on Thursday, February 9, and Monday, February 13, the collector Chickasaw coin started off with 8,658 in sales. Read More…
